Janet Chung is a California and nationally board-certified acupuncturist and Chinese medicine herbalist.

She graduated summa cum laude from Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, where she received over 3,300 hours of training to earn her master's degree. She also holds a B.A. from Wellesley College in Massachusetts.

Janet's clinical training includes interning at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, treating patients suffering from the side effects of cancer and cancer treatments. At the Emperor's College Clinic, she treated a wide variety of cases including musculoskeletal, digestive, female reproductive, pain, and stress conditions. She received additional training at Taiwan's renowned China Medical University, doing clinical rounds with their Chinese internal medicine (herbal medicine), gynecology, acupuncture, and traumatology departments.

A personal path to this medicine

Janet grew up playing competitive sports and has suffered her share of injuries. She was fortunate to receive integrated treatment, so she personally understands the benefits of combining physical therapy with acupuncture and Chinese medicine to treat and rehabilitate injuries. Nowadays she is far removed from her sports-playing days, but she still loves watching the LA Lakers and the SF 49ers — the two teams she grew up with.

Before studying acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, Janet worked long, stressful hours in a corporate office, where over time she began developing health issues. After visiting Western doctors every month and taking pharmaceuticals for half a year without much progress, she turned to Chinese herbal medicine. As she got better, she grew more and more interested in the philosophy and the holistic method of treating the body — until she finally made the jump to go back to school for it.

Her approach to care

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is a holistic medicine, where the condition of the body, mind, and environment all contribute to a person's health and wellbeing. Each visit includes evaluation and personalized treatment according to the patient's current condition. Janet believes in patient-centered care based on trust, compassion, and the intention to promote and assist each patient's path toward better health.

Besides acupuncture, treatment may include Chinese herbal medicine, manual therapy (cupping, gua sha), moxibustion, orthopedic massage (tuina), exercises (qi gong), and diet and lifestyle advice.
